Bear Grylls Shark Tank Wedding Robert Nelson 10

Diving fans Lisa and Chris have exchanged their vows in a truly unique way, in a giant tropical oceanarium at The Bear Grylls Adventure, in what is believed to be one of the UK’s first ever underwater wedding ceremonies.

The couple took the plunge in more ways than one as they dived and said their vows in the attraction’s 864,000 litre tropical tank, with the habitat’s resident animals as the guests of honour, including Blacktip Reef Sharks, Cownose Rays and hundreds of tropical fish.

With wedding plans postponed across the UK in the last 18 months, Lisa and Chris have been thrilled to secure a venue to exchange vows. Couples throughout the country are currently waiting months and even years for dates to tie the knot, as venues battle to work through the backlog of postponed ceremonies. Luckily for Lisa and Chris, they have been able to organise their special day in a matter of months with the attraction’s specialist on-site team.

The pair, who have been together for 5 years, are both qualified divers, having caught the diving bug two years ago on holiday in Lanzarote. The couple gained their qualifications in the following months, and now say diving is their favourite hobby to do together.

Lisa said:

“We were supposed to get married in Cyprus last year, but obviously due to Covid we had to cancel, which left us wondering how we could get married in this country in a way that was special and unique to us as a couple.  I messaged lots of different venues to ask if we could get married there and was having no luck. On the day I was about to give up, I got an email from The Bear Grylls Adventure to say they would do it for us.  We were absolutely over the moon!

We wanted our wedding to be about us, and unique to us as a couple. Everyone who knows us knows our passion is diving, so all agree getting married underwater – amongst the jaws of a Megalodon! - is definitely us. Other people just think we are a little crazy!”

Home to almost 1,000 creatures, including Blacktip Reef Sharks, Nurse Sharks and Cownose Rays, The Bear Grylls Adventure’s custom display allows guests to take the plunge into a new underwater world, exploring the unique environment inhabited by these beautiful creatures. The couple have exchanged their underwater vows within the oceanarium’s Megalodon jaws, with Lisa donning a dress over her wetsuit, and one of the attraction’s dive team acting as officiant.

Marc Bell, General Manager at The Bear Grylls Adventure, said:

“We are thrilled to be hosting Chris and Lisa’s special day. We pride ourselves on making memories for our guests at The Bear Grylls Adventure, and our team have worked tirelessly to ensure that every minute detail is perfected for the couple’s special day. To be a part of such an important occasion for these adventurers to remember for the rest of their lives is a real honour. From myself and all the staff at The Bear Grylls Adventure, we wish them both all the best for their future together.”

Wedding packages are now available at the attraction with prices starting from just £1500, with private hire for parties or functions also available. Those looking for a unique venue are encouraged to get in touch with the attraction’s specialist team to discuss bespoke packages, with options for adrenaline-fuelled activities including:  iFLY, Dive, High Ropes, Archery, Escape Rooms, Shooting, Snorkel and Climb – all under one roof.

The Shark Dive experience at The Bear Grylls Adventure is designed to educate, raise awareness and contribute to the urgent conservation of global shark populations, with a percentage of each Shark Dive experience sold at the attraction going towards the work done by The Shark Trust charity. The attraction’s important partnership with the charity both educates guests and supports further conservation projects.
